Designing content for a poverty dashboard

Since 2008, the NYC Mayor's Office of Economic Opportunity has measured poverty in New York City and produced annual reports using its bespoke NYC Poverty Measure methodology.

In 2025, the office embarked on an effort to build a new website where policymakers could go to get insights and data on poverty. As the content strategist on this project, I identified content needs, defined the information architecture, and did the UX writing.

Communicating "data-speak" to a large audience

Explain what makes the measure unique. People who've rarely interact with poverty measurement

Give enough information for people who need more context, but get savvy users to the data immediately.
